Really, the only great thing about this book is its title, which puts "Whoomp! (There It Is)" into my head. The approach this book takes toward potty training is to tell the child that he or she is smelly and disgusting for wearing a diaper, and that his or her mother is sick and tired of changing said stinky diapers. The illustrations accentuate the feeling that the entire family disapproves of the baby for being in diapers -- the mother has an angry, mean expression on her face (she reminds me of a cartoon villainess, like Cruella Deville or one of the aunts in James and The Giant Peach), and the father is more than a little reminiscent of Hitler. The entire thing is shaming to children. We stopped reading it to our son after the first time, because we don't want him to feel that he's bad or disgusting for being in diapers, or that we're angry at him for not using the potty yet. If you want a cute and much more supportive potty training book for your toddler, I recommend "Once Upon A Potty" by Alona Frankel, and "Potty For Me" by Karen Katz. And I'm feeling free to change the Tag Team lyrics for my own potty-training use without this shaming book.

Poop! There it is! A Silly Potty Training Book for Children Ages Baby3 Xavier Finkley Nayan Soni 9781479209620 Books Reviews

A great, funny story that is enjoyed the the reader as much as by the listener. Very cute and hit the spot with my three grandkids aged 5, 3, and one.
I purchased two of these adorable books for my grandsons who are being toilet trained. The love it! It makes them laugh and one of my grandsons actually sat on the toilet the next day. So I would recommend buying it!
I wish i could give this book 0 stars. By far the worst potty training book out there, and my son loves books, so I have quite a few. I went to read it to him for the first time and literally skipped reading out loud 90% of the pages because they were so mean to the child or were very blatantly shaming the child for pooping or peeing in his diaper. I wish I had read more of the reviews, instead of just looking at how many stars this book received, before purchasing! Please, for your childs sake, do NOT buy this book!
I work at a preschool and had a child that would cry every time he had to go to the restroom. I ordered this book because it was different and the title appeals to young children. I introduced the book during our morning circle, put it on the shelf, and went outside after breakfast. When we came back in, the child that was having difficulty went directly to the book, took it into the restroom, and sat on the toilet like flipping on a switch.
I really done like this book. Its worded to make your little one ashamed of going in the diaper. I'm not interested in negative reinforcement.
My 2 year old granddaughter potty trained easily after reading her the big girl panty book. But pooping scared her , so I purchased this book and we read it as a song. Her fears disappeared. She loved the book so much she still sings the words and she just turned 4.
I agree with K. Vary review. This book is not a good tool to encourage toddlers to feel good about the whole diapper to potty transition. I understand the author felt like he was taking a lighter side approach using humor but unless your a parent/caregiver tired of changing diapers, probably wont catch the pun intended. For a liitle one I think it brings confusion and seems to be a negative approach.
For example quote from the book My sister says "you stink, get out of here!" She can't stand the smell that comes from my rear!
The picture show a baby boy with a smile on his face crawling on floor with brown spot on his diaper and trailing across floor. Sister holding nose with angry face pointing to get out.
My daughter has the book, I make up my own words on the first two pages. If you get the book and feel like this isnt your cup a tea just insert your own story. One thing I dont understand is mom does look angry even in the page where the family is happy for the baby finally pooping in the potty. On the first page you can tell she is upset at changing baby diaper, maybe because she the only one who changes baby...lol That's why baby refers to her as number one wiper I guess.
On second page it has dad on knees point at son almost in a no no manner, begging baby to use the potty. With this picture I painted for this page, than baby says...."when I go in my diaper, I feel a bit naughty!" I can see why.
You have a page where baby "clenches fist and hollered no" because he doesnt want to give up diaper.
The rest of the book is ok, but after baby so no, it shows him sitting in his own pee than he makes the choice to sit on the potty and poop there it is. Usually potty training is a process, sit and wait, if your lucky you get pee. This book isnt geared towards that.
Hope this is helpful. Little ones starting pottying trainning my see it differently with the face expressions of anger and feeling naughty than humorous. If your child can understand the humor than your child must be past the common age of training.
